There are three rules. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law, always listen to your lawyer, and tell the truth. Credibility is an asset you should never waste.

Always comply with law enforcement officials. If questioned you are required to provide identification, including personal information such as your current residence. You are not compelled to make a statement even as a witness, but you can be held for 48 hours and questioned. At any time you may ask for an attorney to represent you.

If you are innocent it is crucial to obtain representation at the earliest opportunity. Your attorney will review the probable cause for your arrest, and advise you of the consequences should you be convicted of the charges. Your best recollection of the facts surrounding the alleged crime and the time it took place must be communicated to your attorney in order to erect a defense. Simple errors such as misidentification can be cleared up, but other matters may require investigation and even trial. Because your liberty is at stake you must have complete confidence in your attorney's expertise and dedication.

If you are guilty of a crime your willingness to admit culpability also allows for consideration due to extenuating circumstances, prior history, and other life factors. My experience as both a prosecutor and defender  provides the expertise to know how to best present your case, and properly advise you of any opportunity to mitigate your sentence.

If you are seeking representation, you are encouraged to complete our Client Contact form, providing any details relevant to your case. This makes it easier to make an initial assessment and schedule the necessary time for a consultation. Thank You for considering the Sullivan Law Firm, and I hope we can be of assistance.  Connie M.
